the history
The history of the Verga family in the fascinating world of watchmaking dates back to the postwar period. Their 60 year old history is infused with great passion and professionalism that covers three generations.
Luigi Verga, founder of the company, was a great watchmaking craftsman. After working as director first and then head of the technical service laboratory of the Giudici watchmaking company, he acquired extensive commercial and technical knowledge in this field. Therefore, he decided to make is dream of having his own company come true.
In 1947 he opened his first retail shop in the heart of Milan, in Via Mazzini near the Duomo. At that time the shop was only 25m2 and he started selling pre-war models.
At the beginning of the 1950s he offered his demanding clients the great names in the field of watchmaking such as Rolex.
In the following years Luigi Verga, being a technical expert, realised how important after sales service was. Therefore, he opened a repair laboratory upstairs.
The shop was thus expanded for the first time in the 1960s and then in 1987 reaching a total of 75m2 with three large windows displaying the most prestigious Swiss watch labels.
The passion for “the machines which tell the time” is an ongoing family tradition. Valerio Verga, the founder’s son, started to work with his father when he was only fifteen. Also for Valerio’s children, Umberto and Valeria, continuing the family tradition was a natural choice. Umberto and his father run the via Mazzini shop while Valeria successfully manages the shop in Corso Vercelli, which opened in 1997.
